Responsibilites


This week the children explored the concepts of FUNCTION and RESPONSIBILITY.  We all have different roles we play in the various communities.  For example at our centre the children felt that  cleanliness and organization are important so we used our service learning chart to help us check what our cleaning responsibilities are and practiced it throughout the week.  Then we went outside to pick up garbage around the playground to show that our responsibilities are not just limited in one space but to every community we are part of.  
We also discussed that in part people perform and continue to stay committed to their responsibilities because we CARE for one another and our community.

    That is great Kathryn... on the weekend Aston decided to help the neigbours out and did some gardening, he enjoyed pulling the weeds out and even discovered a worm! It was great to see him have a sense of community and the enjoyment he experienced in connecting with and helping his neigbours.

    What a great idea to explore!
    I would like to share a little story from last week.
    We were having a walk in the neibourhood and Olivia stops and says: I want to pick up this garbage, mommy, I am a community helper...
    I was so proud of her and I know this happened thanks to you and Creative Minds after the good ideas you explored with the kids.

    Thank you, Creative Minds, for reinforcing the concepts that we teach Jack & Lucas at home. They benefit greatly seeing that we clean up not just at home but in the community as well.

    Thanks Kathryn! This past weekend we are at the park with Cameron and he insisted on picking up all the garbage and dumping it in the garbage bins. He had lots of fun doing it (more so than the playground equipment) and the park was spotless afterwards.

     In this part of the inquiry the children were drawn to a story about a Boy and  a stray puppy who developed friendship as they go through the feelings of sadness, loneliness and in search of a friend. The story lines were catchy and simple enough that children repeatedly said the lines over and over again in their play. Yoga story: Lion and the Mouse

 Before we began our Yoga story of the day the children greeted the beautiful Spring sunshine with their gentle, yet energized breath. I find Sun Salutation poses are the best to revitalize and refresh the mind and body. These poses are dynamic yet focused so provide children the space to be actively engaged and be in their own space while doing the poses. Since it's Spring it also gives us the opportunity to pay gratitude to the morning sunshine and embrace its blessings as we think about the growing and changing that is happening around us Sun salutation and sky arrow poses To continue the theme of  Gratitude and Generosity, we acted the Lion and the Mouse fable using different yoga poses. Unit of Inquiry: Friendship

    September is a wonderful time to be experiencing new and exciting things.  As we continue to learn the new ropes and routine in school we also make new connections and build new friendships along the way.  This current Unit of Inquiry will explore Friendships.  The aim of this unit is to help children develop an understanding of: How do we develop friendly relationships, how to foster friendly relationships and the giving and receiving of friendship.
